What Is Money? Quick Ways To Make Money Online At Home
Different cultures have different interpretation for money. However, we can be far off from the universal understanding for money, can we? Having said that, I believe the universal understanding for money is survival, which translates into food on our table and basic necessities, therefore anything apart from the need to put food on our table and acquire basic necessities are nothing more than modern day unwanted necessities.
In other words, money is about survival. Now that I’ve captured your interest, what IS money?
Money as Security
Is money security for you? The idea where money can buy security is nothing more than an illusion. For example, by hiring more security guards, erecting high walls, installation of electric fence and CCTV does not guarantee you a peace of mind. On the other hand it creates the atmosphere of fear, fear of being robbed, and fear of being kidnapped. How is it possible then to say money is a form of security?
If you were told to walk through down town New York at night with a briefcase filled with money, would you feel secure? If money truly is security, you would, however it is not.
Money as Power
How about power? With enough money, people might respect you, bow to you, right? Corrupt government servants and rich business man would definitely assumed money is power. That is partially true but not accurate enough to justify the true meaning of money; we do know that power comes after money not before, except for a few special cases. Therefore without money there is no power.
If money is power, how do we justify the power bestowed upon Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King? These are great man that changed the system of the most powerful nation in the world at that time without a single dime. Gandhi brought down the mighty British Empire in India while Martin Luther King inspired an entire nation; to a lesser extend the entire world without using money. Therefore money does not equal to power.
Money as Time
Throughout the year, I’ve constantly asked myself ‘What is money?’ and the answer given by all of my friends are not convincing enough, most of them believes money equals power and social acceptance, to a lesser extend it means happiness. The answers given are nowhere near the truth I am seeking. This is because I came from a well to do family, I don’t feel powerful, nor socially accepted by stranger without being questioned, I am neither happy.
It was only when I had a 9 to 6 job did I fully understand the meaning of money, working life thought me the concept where I traded my ‘time’ for a small sum of money, this gave me the eureka moment I was desperately searching for, it came to me when I was lying helplessly on my bed enjoying my unpaid sick leave. I told myself it does not matter what was my performance for that day, I will be paid as long as I am there staring at the monitor with a blank mind. It was only then did I realize my ‘time’ is no longer generating money.
Why money equals to time? We have to understand on a daily basis we are trading time for something, be it love, wealth, health, most importantly we are trading time for knowledge, and knowledge for money. The missing link is knowledge, which requires time to accumulate. Money is something we choose to trade our time for; when we go to work we trade our time for money, same goes for gamblers, robbers, and to a lesser extend our inheritance (e.g. adopted son loved by the adopted family and earn his place in the family wealth.)
The key to be filthy rich is not by working hard, but to work smart. Working hard is like fighting against ‘time’ (impossible), whereas working smart is to ‘own’ time.
For instant, drawing a USD2000 salary does not make person A any richer than person B with multiple incomes at USD500 each. Multiply USD500 with 10, person B’s salary stands at USD5000 per month, therefore making person B richer. The problem with person A is his or her perception on money and time, not his or her knowledge or capability that is stopping him or her from making tons of money. The current scenario says person A worked hard building his/her own dream not knowing that he or she is building his/her boss’ dream. Person B on the other hand draws multiple income by trading money for other people’s time in exchange for more money, this is ‘working smart’.
The key to richness is not how much a person can earn, but how fast a person can earn. The faster a person can accumulate money in smaller sum, the richer he or she is. This is not rocket science, only a logical combination of basic math, life and time. For instant, Bill Gates earn USD50 from me when I purchase a genuine Windows Vista, that may be a small amount but when multiply it with the million of user in the world, he is far more richer than a plumber that charges his client USD200 to fix a broken sink.
The myth where money can’t buy time is not entirely accurate. Those who are on a life and death situation shall know the power of money, with enough money, a person can prolong his or her life with the availability of better medication; in short this is a form of exchanging money for time.
Google Adsense and Money as Time
Perhaps the best way to accurately determine money equals time is none other than Google Adsense, it is a web advertising program for bloggers. Now, imagine you are making USD1.00 per day; this translates into a net profit of USD30.00 for the month. What if you have the ability to compress time, instead of making USD 1 per day you are now raking in a handsome profit of USD2 per day and USD60 per month. What if you can compress 12 months into 30 days? You could be making as much as USD720 per month, right? The only trouble is compressing time which is not possible.
Since compressing time is not possible, how about duplicating time? Instead of having one person working on a single task, we have 12 people working on various tasks. This is known as buying time with money! Just like the good old barter trading system, as an alternative of trading physical goods we are now trading money for time in exchange for more money.
It is a pretty simple and straight forward system and most laymen have absolutely no clue about it. One of the many reasons is the lack of ‘good financial’ education during our secondary and high school years. We are often told to study and work hard, we are shaped and molded to be a good employee and not employer, in short, we are never once taught the concept of financial independence is possible and it is within our reach if we choose so. Having a good life is not a matter of fate; it is a choice by a willing independent mind controlled by you yourself.
